I stumbled across Karon Karter's workout show on TV and was an instant fan. I am so glad that Veria is finally offering a DVD of her workouts; I bought it right away! It is a decent price and includes six quality 30-minute workouts, unlike other DVDs that only include two or three. Also, I hate how most programs spend three minutes explaining a move that you only use for 30 seconds. Karon's moves are easy to pick up on and she explains and demonostrates clearly and quickly, so you spend most of the workout actually working out. I love the pace of the show and the caliber of pilates moves she incorporates. There is a good mix of nice stretches, steady moves to get your heart pumping, and challenging pilates techniques, making for a very well-rounded workout. Her workouts might be a little more involved for beginners, but since I was looking for something more challenging a less basic and blah, this was perfect.
The other problem I have run into with workout DVDs is they don't tell you they require equipment that you might not have, like dumbells, balls, stretch bands, step stools, etc. There is nothing like getting ready for a good workout session only to find you can't complete it! A few of Karon's episodes do include some aids, but she shows you how to use things around your house or modify the moves to use without them. I thought I would get annoyed by this, but Karon does such a good job working around the aids that I had to forgive her and now I don't mind.
Also, Karon always has some helpers behind her that she interacts with. They change every episode, are different ages and body types, and are always dressed conservatively, which is a refreshing change from the skimpy super models most shows use.
Finally, the production quality is excellent. I have been disappointed in the past by purchasing DVD workouts only to find out it looks like they filmed it in someone basement. Veria does a professional job producing her workouts. There is no annoying techno beats or elevator music stuck on replay in the background, and every so often a pop-up appears with some interesting health facts just for fun (but it is not distracting or annoying).
My only critique would be that Karon is a little dry at times and not very animated. However, because of this she never gets annoying like some more over-the-top trainers that try too hard to be exciting and energetic.
Overall, I would highly recommend this DVD to anyone looking for something a little more challenging. It is well-made and well-paced, and definately worth the money. This is the workout DVD I have been waiting for, and will plan on sticking with it for a long time.
